Reid scores third goal of season

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Kerri Reid scored her third goal of the season Sunday, but it wasn't enough to lift Tennessee Tech over SIU Edwardsville in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Despite putting more shots on goal than their opponents, the Golden Eagles fell to 0-2 in league play. Tech will attempt to right its ship next weekend with two OVC home matches, beginning Friday against Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. and ending Sunday  with Morehead State at  1 p.m.

SIU Edwardsville scored the first goal of Sunday's game in the 15th minute of play when Michelle Auer scored off a Rachel Brcic assist. Auer placed a shot from 10 yards out into the right side of the Tech net.

The Cougars added to their advantage less than 10 minutes later when Meagan Iffrig fired a shot from 20 yards out that sailed into the top of the net.

SIU-E took a 2-0 lead into halftime, then scored a third goal in the game's 60th minute when Brcic scored from short range off an Alexandria Brazill assist.

Almost immediately, Tech got the goal back, however, when Reid scored unassisted on an 18-yard shot from the left side. With the goal, Reid became Tech's season-leader in both goals (3) and points (6).

Tech put five shots on goal while the Golden Eagle defense limited SIU Edwardsville to four. The Cougars held the advantage in overall shots, firing 17 compared to nine for the Golden Eagles. SIUE won six corner-kick attempts while Tech managed four.

Sophomore goalkeeper Becca Toler notched one save on the afternoon while SIU-E's Claire Lovercheck collected four saves.

Tennessee Tech got shots on goal from Reid, Lindsey Reed, Kris Cambron, Jessica Wilson and Ellie Iaciofano.
