Toler earns OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honors

Sophomore notches 10 saves in two-win weekend

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech goalkeeper Becca Toler earned her first career Ohio Valley Conference award on Tuesday as she was named Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances in a pair of Golden Eagle victories over the weekend.

Toler played all 180 minutes of action as Tech posted a 2-1 win at East Tennessee State on Friday followed by a 4-1 victory at UNC Asheville Sunday.

She accumulated 10 saves (five in each outing) and allowed just one live-action goal. UNC Asheville’s only score against Tech came on a second-half penalty kick. She posted an .800 save percentage for the weekend and a 1.00 goals-against average.

“This is a great honor for Becca,” head coach Daniel Brizard said. “She has worked hard in the offseason and in practice and she has performed well for us so far this season.

The OVC weekly awards are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

A sophomore out of Collierville, Tenn., Toler has played every minute in each of Tech’s four games this season and has notched 15 saves.

She is also a member of the USA Deaf Soccer women’s team.

The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend at the Adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic in Jacksonville, Ala., where they will face Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. Friday and New Mexico State at noon Sunday.
