NSCAA recognizes Golden Eagles' academic achievement

TTU posts second-highest GPA in OVC

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Tech soccer team was recently honored for its outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.

The Golden Eagles were the recipient of a 2011 NSCAA College Team Academic Award, the Ohio Valley Conference announced Thursday. With a team grade-point average of 3.49, TTU had the second-highest GPA in the conference behind only Morehead State.

The NSCAA team academic award is given to all men’s and women’s NCAA soccer teams who posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. A total of 571 women’s programs from Divisions I, II and III received the award.

“It is fantastic for us to receive this honor,” said Tech head coach Daniel Brizard. “I think it speaks volumes to the hard work our players put in in the classroom, especially considering that I believe Tennessee Tech to be one of the most rigorous academic universities in the Ohio Valley Conference. This is an award for which our players should be proud.”

In charge of administering over 10,000 awards per year, the NSCAA "administers an outstanding awards and recognition program which includes Coach of the Year, All-America, long-term service and special recognition awards designed to recognize excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game."
