Ladd equalizer not enough to lift Golden Eagles past Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Tennessee Tech forced overtime with a late equalizer at Longwood Friday, but the host squad scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into overtime to seal a 2-1 victory.

Chelsea Ladd delivered the game-tying goal for the Golden Eagles in the 74th minute, gaining possession of a loose ball in the box and booting it past Longwood goalkeeper Kyra Byron to tie the game at one.

The goal was a career-first for Ladd, a freshman from Fairfield, Calif.

The Golden Eagles wouldn't be able to open their weekend road swing with a victory, however, as Longwood's Kacie Oliver scored the game-winner on a penalty kick after a foul in the box in the 98th minute.

Tech did have a strong scoring opportunity in the extra period, however, when a shot by Kris Cambron hit post in the 94th minute.

With the loss, Tech falls to 2-4-1 on the season while Longwood improves to 2-3-2.

The Lancers outshot the Golden Eagles 21-10 and put 11 shots on goal compared to five for the Golden Eagles. Longwood also won the advantage in corner kicks, winning eight compared to one for Tennessee Tech.

Golden Eagle goalkeeper  Becca Toler notched nine saves on the night, playing all 98 minutes. Longwood's Byron accumulated three saves.

Longwood scored the first goal of the evening in the 61st minute when Kelsey Pardue drove through traffic, then scored into the left corner of the net.

The Golden Eagles got two shots on goal apiece from Sarah Gawthrop and Ellie Iaciofano.

Tech returns to action on Sunday, battling Radford at 1 p.m.
