Team will wear pink wristbands, throw pink T-shirts to fans

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Tennessee Tech soccer team is doing its part to help out in the fight.

The Golden Eagles will host Think Pink Day at Tech Soccer Field on Oct. 14 when they face Murray State in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference showdown at 3 p.m.

The team will take donations at the gate as well as throw out pink T-shirts to the crowd and wear pink wristbands during the game. All donations will go to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation dedicated to education and research about causes, treatment, and the search for a cure. 

“Cancer, and more specifically breast cancer, is something that affects literally everyone, either directly or indirectly,” said Tennessee Tech head coach Daniel Brizard. “We are happy that we can pitch in and do our part in what has become a national movement of athletics helping to raise money for research and the finding of a cure for this disease.

“Our players are excited to do their part, and we encourage fans to wear pink, come out and support us Oct. 14, and make a contribution to the Susan B. Komen Foundation.”

Admission to the game is free.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a partnership of national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to screening services.
