RICHMOND, Ky. – With daylight fading fast on the University Club at Arlington Monday night, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team was able to just finish the second round of action on the first day of play at the Colonel Classic, hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
Tech turned in rounds of 312 and 311 for a 623 overall to rank 14th in the field competing Monday and Tuesday. The Colonels concluded the day at the top of the leaderboard in their home event, posting a 286-292=578. Cincinnati's Katie Hallinan led all scorers on the day with a 68-67=135.
The Golden Eagles saw rookie Ainsley Simms lead the way through the opening 36 holes, tying for 33rd overall in the field of 81 golfers. The freshman carded back-to-back rounds of 76 for a 152 total on the day.
Next on the list for the purple and gold, redshirt Arianna Clemmer produced a 79-76=155, tying for 43rd overall. Finishing just one shot back of her teammate was Heidi Lawson. The junior tallied scores of 78 and 78 again for a 156 heading into the final day of competition.
Senior Hannah Bratton turned in a 79 over the first 18 holes and followed up with an 81. Her 160 tied her for 65th. Rounding out Tech's participants on the day was sophomore Elisabeth Toennessen, registering an 80-83=163.
The third and final round of the Colonel Classic is set to commence at 8:00 a.m. CT Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
