Golden Eagles complete final day of action at Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up play at the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country Tuesday afternoon, competing at the Kiawah Island Classic on the Oak Point Course of Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The Golden Eagles concluded their second event of the year 30th among the 41 teams in contention, posting 314 on the day to finish with a 942 overall. Dallas Baptist won the overall tournament title with an 865 overall score, 27 shots better than runner-up College of Charleston. 

DBU's Faith DeLaGarza claimed the individual title, firing a 3-under 213 overall. UNCG won the flight championship at Oak Point, while Emily Keeling of Lipscomb was the individual medalist at Oak Point.

Ranking first on the final leaderboard for Tech was Grimstad, Norway native Elisabeth Toennessen. The sophomore tied for 62nd among the 210 participants in the event, carding a 77-74-79=230 for the week. 

Coming up next for the Golden Eagles on the rankings was senior Hannah Bratton, who turned in a team-low, 3-over 75 on the day with 11 pars and two birdies. She concluded the three days of action with a 234, tying for 92nd. 

Heidi Lawson tied for 112th after scores of 78, 77 and 81 adding up to a 236. The junior tallied four birdies on the day.

Redshirt senior Arianna Clemmer and sophomore Gittle Sciolis tied each other for the second day in-a-row, totaling final scores of 247. Each tied for 178th after posting 80s on the day. 

Next on the docket for the Golden Eagles is a week off before heading to Sevierville, Tenn. to host the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate for the eighth time in nine years. Tech will again host the three-day tournament at Sevierville Golf Club on the Highlands Course, this year from Sunday, Mar. 14 through Tuesday, Mar. 16.
