Tech softball to host Chattanooga today in a 5 p.m. contest

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech softball team (16-26, 7-10 OVC) will take a quick break from conference play to host Chattanooga (22-21) today in a 5 p.m. contest at the Tech softball field.

The Golden Eagles just wrapped up a series versus in-state OVC rival Tennessee State on Sunday where Tech defeated the Tigers two games to one. Senior Sabrie Neeb leads the Golden Eagles with a .275 batting average. On the season, Neeb maintains a .433 slugging percentage and has notched 17 RBI, four homeruns, and seven doubles. Junior Alyssa Richards stands as Tech's leader in slugging percentage (.545) and second best in batting average (.268). So far this year, Richards has tallied 29 RBI, nine homeruns, and four doubles.

In the circle, junior southpaw Danielle Liberatore (11-11) continues to be a tough competitor to her opponents at the dish. In her 122.2 innings pitched, Liberatore has thrown 12 complete games including four shutouts and one save. She holds a 3.37 ERA on the season and has notched 172 strikeouts while walking just 61.

The Mocs travel to Cookeville after falling to Georgia State on Wednesday 11-0. Chattanooga, a Southern Conference affiliate, holds a 4-5 conference record so far this season, defeating SoCon opponent Western Carolina most recently two games to one.

Senior Alyssa Taylor leads the Mocs with a .339 batting average. Thus far this season, Taylor holds a .357 slugging percentage and has notched 10 RBI and two doubles. Another key player on the Chattanooga lineup is Jordan Fortel. Fortel leads the Mocs with a .496 slugging percentage. She has tallied 21 RBI, four homeruns, and eight doubles on the season while maintaining a .328 batting average. 

Sophomore pitcher Cori Jennings leads Chattanooga in the circle with a 10-8 record and a 3.27 ERA. In her 107 innings pitched, Jennings has thrown 12 complete games including two shutouts. She has tallied 84 strikeouts and the season while allowing 34 walks.
