Golden Eagles fall to Kennesaw State 6-0 before being rained out against East Tennessee State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—Rain was the theme of for the Tech Softball Tournament on Sunday. The Tennessee Tech softball team (6-15) fell to Kennesaw State (15-7) 6-0 before a burst of rain caused the field to become too wet to finish the series against East Tennessee State.

Despite it raining on and off throughout the first part of the game against the Owls, KSU got their bats going right away in the game scoring one in the first off of a Tech throwing error. The Owls added one more each in the third in the fourth off of a Missy Perkowski single down the third base line to drive in one and a Taylor Denton single to drive in another.

The Owls rounded out their 6-0 shutout adding three runs in the top of the fifth when Megan Veringa smacked an RBI-double to right field, and then Emily Bishop followed up with a sacrifice bunt to drive in a runner and then another Tech throwing error allowing a second Owl runner to score.

Danielle Liberatore (3-7) suffered the loss going for 4.1 innings and allowing six runs, three which were earned, off of five hits, while striking out seven and walking five. Logan Viers (7-1) saw victory in the circle for KSU pitching five innings and allowing no runs on three hits while striking out two.

The Golden Eagles waste no time getting back in action kicking things off again on Tuesday when they host a doubleheader against Bradley at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Tech Softball field.
