No. 5 LSU defeats the Golden Eagles 16-0 in five innings on final day of the LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La.—The Tennessee Tech softball team (5-13, 0-0 OVC) fell to No. 5 LSU (29-2) 16-0 in the final day of the LSU Invitational.

LSU started their scoring drive in the bottom of the first when Amber Serrett hit a two-RBI single to center field and advanced to second on a throw, leaving runners on second and third with two down. Kellsi Kloss then came up to the plate and singled down the line to score two more Lady Tiger runners extending the LSU lead to 4-0.

Later in the inning, Sandra Simmons doubled to left center driving in Kloss, and a walk then reloaded the bases for the Lady Tigers. Emily Griggs then doubled through the left side, scoring two more LSU runs. Bianka Bell followed up with a 2-RBI single to center field extending the Lady Tiger lead to 9-0 and a wild pitch advanced the runners driving in Bell to close out a 10-run off of seven hits first inning.

LSU added three more in the bottom of the third when bases loaded with one down brought Sahvanna Jaquish to the plate who hit a 2-RBI single to the shortstop. Landry then followed up with an RBI single to center field to extend the Lady Tiger lead to 13-0.

LSU added three more in the bottom of the fourth to round out their 16-0 victory over Tech.

Thomas (2-4) suffered the loss going for 2.1 innings and allowing nine runs on six hits while striking out two and walking four. Carley Hoover (8-0) pitched the no-hitter for the Tigers going all five innings and striking out seven and walking two.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Mar. 12-13 when they host the Tech Softball Tournament against Kennesaw State and East Tennessee State.
