Tech men's golf team ties for fifth at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team put a cap on the seventh annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, tying for fifth place among the 15-team field competing on the River Course at Sevierville Golf Club.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up the three-day event with a 295 in the final round, matching Wright State's overall total of 876 for the tournament.

Leading the purple and gold's scoring group for the week was Cookeville native Will Brooks, who tied for 19th out of the 90 participants. The sophomore carded a 219 through three rounds, posting scores of 75, 67 and 77 throughout the event.

Three Golden Eagles all tied for 25th with matching scores of 220, including Bracton Womack, Cameron Yeary and Bryce Beeler. Turning in the best round of the day among the Tech starters was Womack, who shot a 1-under 71. Beeler, a freshman, turned in an even-par 72 while Yeary captured a 3-over 75.

Completing the Golden Eagle lineup on the leaderboard was Matthew Giles. In his final go-around at the BNI, the senior scored a 74-73-80=227, tying for 55th overall.

Rookie Cade Puryear concluded his second collegiate event in style, putting a ribbon on a strong showing with a 2-over 74. He finished with a total of 219, tying with his teammate, Brooks, for 19th overall while competing as an individual.

Also in the individual pool, Dabney Dickenson wrote in his own 2-over 74, giving him a final score of 228. Freshman Chance Taylor posted a 78, his best round of the event, to conclude the week with a 244.

Claiming the tournament championship was Lee University, which fired off an 842 to defeat Eastern Kentucky by six strokes. IUPUI's Nick Bienz took home individual medalist honors after carding a 68-68-67=203.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Coca Cola Invitational. Hosted by Wofford at the Country Club of Spartanburg, the 54-hole event is set to span Apr. 1-2.
