SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Day one of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate came to a close Monday as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed two days of play at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in 11th place among 15 teams.
The Golden Eagles tallied a 572 (283-289), ranking just two shots back of 10th place, and 10 strokes behind third-place Chattanooga.
In his second career event, Bryce Beeler turned in another strong showing to start the week, tying for 29th overall among the 84 golfers in action to lead the Golden Eagles. The rookie fired a 142 (69-73) to sit at even-par while posting his first career sub-70 round.
Just a stroke back of his teammate, junior Dabney Dickenson posted a 143 (71-72). He ranked in a tie for 36th at just 1-over for the tournament. Another shot behind Dickenson was senior Matthew Giles, whose 144 (73-71) was good enough to tie for 43rd.
Sophomore Will Brooks tied for 54th after notching rounds of 70 and 76 for a 146 overall while junior Cameron Yeary compiled a 152 (79-73) to conclude his day.
Georgia Southern stood on top of the leaderboard after two rounds, posting a 550 (278-272) with two golfers in the top-five. Chattanooga's Etienne Brault and Eastern Kentucky's Erik Lindwall tied for the individual lead, turning in scores of 135 (66-69) and 135 (68-67), respectively.
Play is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday with the Golden Eagles kicking of their day with tee times beginning at 7:35 a.m. CT.
