Tech men's golf team ties for sixth at OVC Championships, Seals named to All-Tournament Team

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Blistery conditions played havoc with the entire field of 55 golfers at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Wednesday afternoon, as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team concluded play at the RTJ Trail at The Shoals by tying for sixth place with Austin Peay and Morehead State.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up the three-day affair with a final score of 890, posting a third-round 316. Jacksonville State took home the conference crown, edging out Eastern Kentucky 866 to 867.

The Gamecocks' Bo Hayes and UT Martin's Hunter Richardson shared medalist honors after wrapping up play with three-round scores of 212.

Freshman Charles Seals completed his brilliant performance at his first career postseason event tied for fourth place overall, collecting a place on the OVC All-Tournament Team for his efforts. Seals turned in an 81 on the final day, combining with first and second round totals of 67 and 68 for a career-low 216.

The total shattered his previous career best mark of 222 set in the season-opening event at GolfWeek Program Challenge. The rookie led the entire field in total birdies, recording 13 through three days of play.

Junior A.J. Wilkerson tied for 15th overall after play concluded, carding rounds of 73, 71 and 77 for a 221. Fellow veteran, sophomore Matthew Giles, finished just behind Wilkerson with a final score of 223. He tied for 21st with rounds of 73, 73 and 77.

True freshman Cameron Yeary ranked next for Tech, finished 43rd behind an 81-71-81=233. Fellow rookie Dabney Dickenson posted rounds of 78, 75 and 81 to round out his first OVC Tournament action with a 234.
