Golden Eagle men's golf team adds Brooks, Womack for 2017-18 season

By Mike Lehman, TTU Sports Information

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team announced the addition of two players for the 2017-18 athletic season, adding to a youthful roster that currently features six underclassmen.

"We're really looking forward to the additions of both Will Brooks and Bracton Womack," head coach Polk Brown said. "He and Will are very close and will kind of make up a nice little duo for us next year. I think it will be cool to see how they come in and interact with the team right away. We expect them both to be very successful here."

With a young core already in place, plus the additions of two highly competitive and capable freshmen, the potential is through the roof for next year's Golden Eagle squad, a team that returns every player from this season's roster.

Here's a look at the signees for the 2017-18 season:

WILL BROOKS
Hometown:
 Cookeville, Tenn.
High School: Cookeville HS

Brooks spent most of his career at Cookeville High School rewriting the record books, finishing with the most tournament wins, lowest ever tournament round, lowest single-season scoring average and mos consecutive rounds under par in competition. As a senior, he earned District 6-AAA Player of the Year honors after breaking the school mark with a 70.2 scoring average. During his senior campaign, he fired off six straight rounds under par, including posting a school record 63 (7-under) at the Earlybird Invitational.

His eight career victories marked the most in school history, but little was surprising for the All-Midstate Team selection by the Tennessean in 2014. He finished ninth at the TSSAA State Tournament as a sophomore after winning the Region Tournament. In his final season, Brooks won the Sneds Tour Elite Series event by shooting 6-under and was selected to the Tennessee Junior Cup East Team.

COACH BROWN'S TAKE
"Will is a local player from here in town that has had a very successful junior career. He's well-known and will be a very good ambasador for the University. His father played football here, so he has a good understanding of us already. He's a very fine young man and we're looking forward to what he can contribute to the team right away."

BRACTON WOMACK
Hometown:
 Morrison, Tenn.
High School: Warren County HS

Womack has put together a highly impressive resume over the past two years as a member of the Warren County High School golf team, collecting four first-place finishes, three runner-up finishes and two more top-five finishes. He collected wins at the AAJGT Tournament and WCHS tournament at Cleveland Golf Club and Golden Eagle Golf Club as a junior, firing an impressive 64 at Tech's home course. He followed that up with another 64 and first-place showing at GEGC as a senior.

Womack tied for eighth in the Tennessee State Tournament this season and also qualified for the Tennessee Junior Cup East Team. He also tied for fourth at the Sneds Tour Elite Series after finishing second in the Sneds Tour Tournament of Champions qualifier.

COACH BROWN'S TAKE
"Bracton is also from nearby in Morrison and we're looking forward to his potential very much. He also put together a very successful junior career, showing the ability to play exceptionally well at our home course, the Golden Eagle Golf Club. He will fit in very well to our team next year."
