Golden Eagles in position to climb in final round of fall at Samford Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team set itself up nicely for the third and final round of the Samford Intercollegiate Monday afternoon, posting rounds of 299 and 304 to rank fourth overall heading into the final day of competition at Greystone Golf & Country Club.

Tech finished just seven strokes behind third place and 14 behind leader and Ohio Valley Conference rival UT Martin, both manageable deficits with one round to play.

The Golden Eagles used veteran leadership to collect its overall 603 on Monday, receiving a strong effort from A.J. Wilkerson. The junior fired rounds of 75 and 72 for a 147 total to tie for fourth place on the leaderboard.

Just two strokes back of his teammate, Matthew Giles posted a first-round 72 before coming back with a second-round 77 for a 149 overall. The sophomore finished his first day of the event in a tie eighth place.

Junior Alexander Riddle filed in right behind Giles, carding a 73-78=151 to rank 14th overall while freshman Cameron Yeary tallied scores of 79 and 77 for a 156. Redshirt freshman Landon Albert wrapped up the scoring for the Tech squad, totaling a 159 behind rounds of 80 and 79.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up its final fall event Tuesday morning with the final round set to tee off at 8 a.m. CT in a shotgun start.
