COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Those around the Tennessee Tech football program know special Seth Carlisle has been for the Golden Eagles over the last few years. Now Carlisle has a new chance for national recognition as he has been named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy.

The finalists for the National Football Foundation's award will pared down from the list of 156 semifinalists and those will be announced on October 26 with each finalist receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The 12-14 finalists will travel to Las Vegas for the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Bellagio Resort and Casino on December 6.

During the event, the winner of the Campbell Trophy will be announced and the scholarship will be increased to $25,000.

Each nominee was selected by their schools – limited to one nominee each – and candidates had to be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a minimum 3.2 grade point average, be a first-team or significant contributor and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

Carlisle is the third semifinalist from Tennessee Tech since 2017, joining Dontez Byrd and Tavin Kilpatrick.

Carlisle, already working toward his master's degree in business administration, graduated from Tech last December with a 3.66 GPA in Biology Health Sciences with an emphasis in pre-dentistry. Among his academic honors, Carlisle was a regular member of the Dean's List, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

He was Tech's recipient of the National Football Foundation Middle Tennessee chapter's Charles W. Hawkins III University Scholar-Athlete Award and was one of the recipients of the OVC's Scholar-Athlete Award. Carlisle earned the Headrick Pre-Health Sciences Scholarship, the Jerry D. Cantrell Endowment Scholarship and the Golden Opportunity Scholarship.

A member of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association's Academic All-Star Team, Carlisle was the OVC's nominee for the STATS FCS Doris Robinson Award and was a finalist in the 2021 balloting.

On the field, Carlisle was a STATS Perform FCS National Player of the Week honorable mention in the Spring 2021 campaign, twice-named OVC Defensive Player of the Week and was the Spring 2021 winner of Tech's prestigious Robert Hill Johnson Award.

A member of Tech Football's Leadership Group, Carlisle also had the opportunity to shape the game itself as he served on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee Student-Athlete Connection Group. Carlisle has also been a part of the Tech and OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committees and has served countless hours of community service with the organizations and the football team.

In his 43-game career, Carlisle has 258 total tackles, two fumble recoveries, five interceptions, eight pass breakups and one quarterback hurry.
