COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It's the centennial celebration season for Tennessee Tech football and now fans can make their plans for the 2022 Golden Eagle home games at Tucker Stadium as start times have been announced.
"Our staff and our players are excited about our home schedule," said Tech head coach Dewayne Alexander. "There is an excellent mix of familiar foes – Samford and Tennessee State – and new teams coming into Tucker Stadium for the first time."
The Sept. 10 home opener – the Legends Weekend contest against Texas A&M-Commerce – is set for a 6 p.m. start time. It is Tech's second contest against Texas A&M-Commerce in program history as the first-year Division I program played the Golden Eagles in the 1953 Tangerine Bowl following the 1952 campaign back when the school was known as East Texas State. The game is part of the Ohio Valley Conference's scheduling alliance with the Southland Conference. The game will also be Public Safety and Military Appreciation Night.
The following week – Sept. 17 – is also a 6 p.m. start time as the Samford Bulldogs return to Tucker Stadium for the third meeting in five seasons. The last time Samford was in Cookeville, the Golden Eagles sent the Bulldogs to the doghouse with a thrilling double-overtime victory. That contest is slated to be Family Weekend at Tech.
The last evening game for the Golden Eagles at home will fall on October 15 as Tech hosts Tennessee State for a 6 p.m. contest. Last season's game at Nissan Stadium ended in a tough overtime defeat but Tech will look to find the advantage this time around.
Saturday, Nov. 5's Homecoming contest will welcome Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Lindenwood to Cookeville. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start and will be Tech's first-ever meeting against the Lions.
The Senior Day contest on Nov. 19 against North Carolina Central is also scheduled for 1:30 p.m. as the Golden Eagles close out the regular season. Tech soared past the Eagles last season on their home turf.
