Campbell receives nod from OVC as Special Teams co-Player of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Punter Nick Campbell helped Tennessee Tech win the all-important battle for field position Saturday night in a 21-10 victory at Tennessee State, and Sunday he was voted the Ohio Valley Conference Special Teams co-Player of the Week.

A junior from Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Campbell punted six times and averaged 45.5 yards per kick. That number includes a 27-yard kick on his final try from the TSU 37 late in the game that backed up the host Tigers to their own 10. Earlier in the game, Campbell downed three other punts inside the TSU 20, including a 60-yard kick out of bounds and a nine and a 46-yard kick that went out of bounds at the three.

In all, four of his six punts were downed inside the TSU 20.

For the season, Campbell has 31 punts and has averaged 39.0 yards per kick with six of 50 yards or more. He has downed 10 of his kicks inside the opponent 20-yard line with only three going for touchbacks.

Campbell shared the honor with Southeast Missouri placekicker Drew Geldbach, who scored 11 points in the Redhawks' 40-21 win over Eastern Kentucky. SEMO quarterback Matt Scheible was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while the Defensive PoW is Brannon Byrd of Jacksonville State. Freshman quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo of Eastern Illinois is the OVC Newcomer of the Week.

Tech has a week off this Saturday and returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, with a road contest at Murray State.
