Tech at Belmont Tuesday for the first of five games this week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Golden Eagles will play five games in six days this week, taking on the Belmont Bruins on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Nashville in the only road game of the set.

Tech holds a very narrow 29-28 edge on the series against Belmont, and will look to widen the gap in E.S. Rose Park.

Both the Golden Eagles and the Bruins went 1-2 in their last series, Tech against Eastern Michigan at home and Belmont against Mississippi State on the road. Both teams won the first game of the series and dropped the second two. The series against EMU left Tech sitting at a 1-6 record, while the Bruins are sitting tight at 3-5.

Tech's southpaw freshman Jake McWhirter will make his debut appearance for the Golden Eagles, earning the start for Tuesday. A native of Goodlettsville, Tenn., McWhirter was named 1st team All-District, Disctrict MVP, 2nd team Mid-State, 2nd team All-State and 1st team All-State over the course of his high school career at Goodpasture Christian. He recorded 109 strikeouts with a 1.69 ERA during his senior season, notching of 225 career Ks. His high school team held the district championship title from 2007-2010, claimed the regional championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and the state championship in 2007 and 2008.
