Track's Na'Asha Robinson and Micayla Rennick break school records at Vanderbilt Opener Invitational on Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech track team opened their 2016-17 season at the Vanderbilt Opener Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday.

Two Golden Eagles broke school records to highlight the day's meet: Na'Asha Robinson in the 200 meter and Micayla Rennick in the mile. N. Robinson placed first in the 200 meter in a field of 53 runners with a time of 24.00, while Rennick placed second in the mile with a time of 4:54.06 just three seconds behind the lead runner from Vanderbilt.

Also, running in the 200 meter were Jaydean Joseph who finished 10th overall with a time of 25.23 and Brittany McGee who came in 52nd overall with a time of 31.49. Also participating in the mile was Jenna Storms who placed eighth with a time of 5:20.93.

N. Robinson placed fifth in the women's 60 meters, completing the race in 7.75. McGee and Eshe Robinson also participated in the race. McGee placed 30th overall with a time of 8.26, while E. Robinson placed 33rd overall with a time of 8.66.

D'Airrien Jackson placed fourth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:13.19. Others finishing in the race were Madison Stremler who came in ninth with a time of 2:19.96, Anna Cooper who placed 13th (2:27.62), and Andrea Retano who placed 18th (2:39.98).

Purity Murray was the only Tech runner in the women's 3,000 meter race. She finished 11th overall with a time of 10:48.91. E. Robinson was also the only Golden Eagle to participate in the 60 meter hurdles, she completed the race 20th overall with a time of 9.25.

In the high jump, Na'Scottisha Drummond was tied at fourth making it to the second round with a 1.55 meter jump. Raven Smith participated in the long jump for the Golden Eagles. She placed 22nd overall with a 5.09 meter jump. Smith also competed in the triple jump, where she came in ninth overall with an 11.33 meter leap.

Antonia Susnjar and Smith competed in the shot put for the Tech squad. Susnjar placed 27th overall with a 10.92 meter throw, while Smith came in 33rd with a 9.57 meter toss.
