Na'Asha Robinson claims OVC and Tech school record in the 400-meter dash on day two of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The Tennessee Tech track and field squad carried over their success from day one on to day two. Highlighting the day's action was a Na'Asha Robinson first place finish in the 400-meter dash. There, N. Robinson recorded a time of 53.20 which topped her own former Tech school record of 54.14, and the Ohio Valley Conference record previously held by Murray State's Stephanie Saleem  in 1989 (53.79). N. Robinson's performance beat out 68 other runners from various schools such as Vanderbilt, Purdue, Notre Dame, Indiana, Georgia Tech, the University of Miami, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Illinois, Louisville, and Ohio State.

"We had some solid performances today," head coach Wayne Angel remarked. "We are rounding the corner and putting on the final touches as we prepare for the conference championships. Na'Asha was truly amazing today. She is going to do something special at conference in three weeks. I was very pleased with this weekend."

Sharnique Leonce also broke the Tech school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68, placing 15th in a field of 24 competitors.

D'Airrien Jackson also had a solid finish in the 400-meter dash. She placed 20th out of the field of runners with a time of 55.66. Micayla Rennick placed 25th overall in the 3,000 meter run clocking in with a time of 9:52.43

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday-Saturday, February 11-12, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Samford Invitational.

Day One Recap

The Tennessee Tech track and field team continued their record breaking success at the Meyo Invitational on Friday. The Golden Eagles opened day one of the meet on a high-note with a school record shattering performance in the distance medley relay. The quad of Micayla RennickD'Airrien JacksonNa'Asha Robinson, and Sarah Brandt claimed a fifth place finish (out of 20) in the race, beating out teams from schools of Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and OVC opponent Eastern Illinois University. The group's time of 11:35.22 not only topped the Tech school record, but it also shattered the Ohio Valley Conference record, which was previously held by Eastern Kentucky's Julie Mathisen, Megan Kiley, Carina Schrempf, and Charlotte Imer with a time of 11:53.75.

To continue to highlight day one's action, Sharnique Leonce claimed a school record, as well, in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.73, which beat out former Golden Eagle's Carmen Tucker's record of 9.21.
