Elon Phoenix sweeps Golden Eagle tennis team, 7-0

ELON, N.C. – Elon claimed all three doubles matches and then swept the singles events to earn a 7-0 non-conference victory over Tennessee Tech Friday afternoon in men's tennis action.

The Phoenix, playing their first home match of the season, improved to 1-2 while the Golden Eagles saw their record slip to 1-4.

Tech's next match will be the team's first home outing, with Gardner-Webb visiting on Saturday (Feb. 11) for an 11 a.m. match.

Cameron Silverman and Eric Turner got the Phoenix off to a good start Friday at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win over Syrym Abdukhalikov and Artem Tarasov. TTU claimed the second doubles match 8-5 as Alexk Chen and Alejandro Augusto Bueno took the win over No. 3 by Stefan Fortmann and Juan Madrid. Jordan Kaufman and Andrew Prince completed the doubles sweep on court two with an 8-5 victory over Vasily Eremeev and James Crawford.
 
The Golden Eagles saw Elon win all six singles matches in straight sets, starting at No. 5 as Kaufman defeated Tarasov, 6-2, 6-1. Fortmann also made quick work at No. 2, defeating Chen, 6-3, 6-1, to put the Phoenix up 3-0.
 
Silverman clinched the match win for Elon by defeating Abdukhalikov, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 On court three, Turner tool the measure of Bueno, 6-2, 6-4. The final two points went to Madrid at No. 4 with 7-5, 6-2 decision over Eremeev, and Carlos Arboleda with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Crawford.
