Kirstein advanaces to Southern Invitational quaterfinals

ATHENS, Ga. – Fresh off his first win the in Southern Invitational Friday, senior Justin Kirstein continued to roll as he advanced to the quarterfinals. Kirstein defeated Tennessee’s Bryan Swartz Saturday in straight sets by the scores of 6-3 and 6-0.

Kirstein will now take on North Carolina State’s Robbie Mudge Sunday, at 9:30 a.m.

In doubles action, Kirstein, along with sophomore Vasily Eremeev went down to the wire with the Georgia Southern pairing of Andrew Dromsky and Oliver Webb, but ultimately took the 9-8 (7) loss.

In consolation action, Eremeev battled with Stetson’s Erik Halaj in a three set affair that went the way of the Golden Eagles as Eremeev won by the scores of 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Eremeev will take on Georgia State’s Ismael Lahiou Sunday, at 8 a.m., in the second round of the Division II Singles Consolation draw.

Senior Alex Chen also participated in consolation action as he took Virginia Tech’s Mauricio Antun to the limit, but it was Antun who would take the day as Chen fell in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 10-6.
