Golden Eagle tennis team ready to get back to action with tourney play

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men’s tennis team will compete in six tournaments during the 2011 fall season.

“The fall season gives our guys a chance to compete in tournaments against high level competition,” head coach Kenny Doyle said. “It also gives them the opportunity to see where their games stand.”

Doyle has seven players returning from last season’s squad including seniors Alex Chen, James Crawford and Justin Kirstein, juniors Syrym Abdukhaillikov, Yianni Doropoulos and Arturo Santa Ruize and sophomore Vasily Eremeev.

“They’ve all been working hard since the spring season and these events give them a chance to weigh-in on their play at the regional and possibly national level,” Doyle said.

The Golden Eagles will take part in three tournaments in September, including the University of Tennessee Invitational (Sept. 16-18) ,the Southern Intercollegiate (Sept. 23-25) and the UT Chattanooga Fall Classic (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).

The Golden Eagles will hope to have a few players qualify for the ITA All-America Championships (Oct. 3-5) in Tulsa, Okla. Tech could then take part in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional (Oct. 20-24) in Knoxville, Tenn., before heading to the USTA/ITA National Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. (Nov. 3-6).
