Golden Eagles continue play in Ohio Valley Regionals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After posting three singles victories one day prior, the Tennessee Tech men’s tennis team earned another singles victory off the racquet of junior Syrym Abdukhailikov.

Abdukhailikov began the day with a straight set victory over Tennessee’s Bryan Schwartz by the scores of 6-3, 6-1. In the third round, Abdukhailikov took part in a competitive three-set affair with Kentucky’s Alex Musialek, who was the No. 2 seed in the tournament and ranked #20 nationally , but he would go no further as he took the loss by the scores of 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.

Senior Alex Chen and sophomore Vasily Eremeev also gained valuable experience as they took part in the second round of the tournament. Neither Chen or Eremeev were able to advance however as Chen took a 6-2, 7-6 loss to Indiana’s Stephen Vogl, and while Eremeev was handed a 6-2, 6-1 loss from Tennessee’s Mikelis Libietis.

In consolation action senior James Crawford took part in a three-set match against Tennessee’s Jarryd Chapli, which ultimately favored Chaplin 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Senior Justin Kirstein and freshman Ezequiel Gils also took part in consolation play, with Kirstein taking a two set loss to East Tennessee State’s Juan Ramirez 6-2, 6-0, and Gils absorbing a two-set loss to Ball State’s Dalton Albertin 6-4, 6-2.
