CULLOWHEE, N.C. - For just the second time this season, the Tennessee Tech baseball team was handed a series loss, falling to Western Carolina Saturday afternoon, 6-1. The Golden Eagles move to 33-14 on the season and will not return to the diamond until Friday, May 10.
The Catamounts contained the potent Golden Eagle offense to five hits and one run behind an impressive pitching performance by starter Jordan Smith. Smith tossed seven innings for Western Carolina, scattering five hits and not allowing an earned run while striking out six.
Western Carolina was led by catcher Adam Martin, who collected two RBI on the day.
Tech put up one run in the fifth inning, using an RBI double from Jordan Parris to prevent the Catamounts from handing the Golden Eagles just their second shutout of the season. Parris drove in James Abraham, who reached base on an error and finished the game with two hits.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday, May 10 when they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. for an Ohio Valley Conference match-up against Southeast Missouri. The three game series will close out Tech's road schedule for the 2013 season.
