COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Jacob Honea struck out a career-high 10 batters as the Tennessee Tech baseball team (13-6, 5-1) completed a series sweep of Morehead State (7-12, 2-4) with a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Golden Eagle squad, the most since the 2008 season. The victory also marked the 13th of the year for Tech, the most in its first 19 games since 2008. With a 5-1 record in Ohio Valley Conference play, the Golden Eagles now sit tied for second with Jacksonville State.

Honea put together the best start of his Golden Eagle career, scattering seven hits over 6.1 innings while allowing just two earned runs. He set down a career-best 10 batters on strikes while walking three.

Morehead State got on the board first, grabbing a run off a single by Chris Robinson. The designated hitter finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Golden Eagles responded in the bottom of the second, using clutch, two-out hitting to scratch across two runs to grab a 2-1 lead. Jordan Parris and Zach Zarzour each drew walks to set up Austin Wulf for an RBI single down the left field line. Zach Stephens walked in the next at-bat to load the bases. Zarzour scored on a passed ball to give Tech the lead.

In the top of the third, the Eagles struck again, evening the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly by shortstop Chase Greenwell. It marked the closest Morehead got to winning the contest as Honea shut the door on any comeback attempt with a stellar performance.

Tech took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning, using a bases loaded, sac fly from Stephens to make the score 3-2. Stephens just missed out on a home run as gusty winds kept the towering shot in the park, falling short at the warning track.

Two more runs in the bottom of the seventh finished the scoring for the game as Brandon Thomasson extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single. James Abraham followed it up with a single, driving in Thomasson for the first run of the inning. Dylan Bosheers wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single following a steal of second base by Abraham.

Stanton Taylor and Seth Lucio checked in for the Golden Eagles, finishing off the Eagles for the 5-2 win. Taylor went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and two hits allowed. Lucio entered the contest in the top of the ninth, striking out the first two batters he faced. He got the final batter of the game to fly out to left field, earning him his second save of the season.
