Archer shuts down Gray Team in Purple and Gold Series Game 2

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. The Tennessee Tech baseball team held Game 2 of its Purple and Gold Series Thursday afternoon, a game that had several implications lying within it. Win, and the Purple Team would own a demanding 2-0 lead in the five game series. Lose, and it would be a whole new series.

Unfortunately for the Purple team, senior Tristan Archer was on the mound for the Gray team and picked up right where he left off last season, ranking in the top-10 in several pitching categories in the Ohio Valley Conference. Archer pitched four scoreless innings in the seven inning game, allowing just two hits during the contest. He also struck out three batters while only walking one.

Sophomore outfielder David Allen and freshman infielder Hunter Hudson helped back the great pitching performance by Archer. Allen recorded two hits in the game and scored two of the Gray Team's four runs. Hudson had a great day behind the plate, going two for three and driving in all four RBIs to back up the great outing by the pitcher.

The Purple Team did manage get a run to avoid the shut-out in the final inning off of a bases loaded walk by freshman infielder Charles Matsunami. He also got on base twice, singling earlier in the game.

Game 3 of the series will commence on Sunday, Nov.4 at 2 p.m CT at Bush Stadium in the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
