Tech ties record with 113 student-athletes named to OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was another fantastic season for the Tennessee Tech student-athletes in the classroom and it was reflected a record-tying 113 were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. Tech also saw 113 honored for 2013-14.

The most honored Tech team was women's soccer, which boasted a league-high 20 student-athletes on the list. The soccer team was followed by football with 19 and both baseball and softball with 13 each.

To be selected for the honor, the student-athlete must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average and have been eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition.

"We are extremely proud of the academic success of our student-athletes and our teams," said Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. "I congratulate each of them for being named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

"Student-athletes at Tennessee Tech truly personify the meaning of the term. Success within the academic realm is expected consistently, and these awards represent the standard that has been set for both athletic and academic performances at Tennessee Tech."

Across the league, 1,281 student-athletes were recognized for their efforts in the classroom. Overall it marks the second-highest total in League history, trailing only a record 1,337 honorees a season ago.

Over the past 10 years, the OVC has honored over 11,000 student-athletes with the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Earlier this week the League announced that 222 student-athletes earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for having perfect 4.0 grade point averages last academic year. The League will announce the winner of the Academic Achievement Award and Team Academic Achievement Awards next week.
