Golden Eagle baseball team "plays for blood" in three-game fall series

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Competing in a three-game series midway through the fall practice session, the Golden Eagle baseball team decided to make the impact of winning and losing mean something for the entire community.

The losing side agreed to donate blood at the local Blood Assurance. Each player on the losing team, as well as several coaches and members of the winning team took turns over the past week making blood donations to help those in need all over community, state and country.

"This was a very spirited series to say the least," head coach Matt Bragga said. "It is an obvious sports cliché to say you are 'playing for blood', but this time it was no cliché as they were playing for real blood. The amazing thing about this is that our guys were the ones that wanted to play for blood. This was not a coaches decision, it was a player driven choice and we are incredibly proud of them.

"Not only was the intensity of the three-game series great, but the motive behind the series was much deeper than baseball. Our guys want to make a difference in this great country of ours and this amazing community. I believe when they chose to play for blood, they knew even by losing they would be winning. This is a fantastic group of young men and I cannot wait to get them back on the field this spring."
