COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech student-athletes took their achievements in the classroom to a whole new level this past fall, completely shattering the previous school record for the number of Gold Club honorees.
Recognizing those students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, the Gold Club featured a whopping 56 members for the Fall 2016 semester, besting the previous school record of 49 set in the Fall of 2010.
"It continues to be a remarkable feat for our student-athletes to achieve such a high level of success, and they've done it for so many semesters," said TTU Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. "The Honor Roll recognizes these young women and men, and helps us to congratulate them on a job well done."
Also, for the 12th time in the last 15 semesters, the number of Tennessee Tech's students in athletics who achieved recognition by earning a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll surpassed 200. The fall semester's 221 names ranks second in the history of the honor roll to just the fall semester of 2013, which boasted an incredible 236 names.
"These impressive numbers are a tribute to our student-athletes, our coaches and our staff for making academics such a high priority," Wilson said. "Not only are these results something to be proud of, it's especially gratifying that it happens on such a consistent basis. It is remarkable, but it has become a level of performance that we have come to expect. Our student-athletes also have come to expect such an impressive result from themselves and their peers."
"That level of success has become an enduring legacy that each incoming class can strive to attain, and our Athletics Department will continue to work to achieve."
The 56 who scored perfect grades to be listed in the Gold Club for the semester are highlighted below in bold italics under their respective programs.
"Everyone throughout the campus community, especially those of us within the Athletics Department, should be extremely proud of the student-athletes at Tennessee Tech as they continue to set high standards in the classroom," Wilson said. "They are students in the truest sense of the word."
