COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Are the days leading up to the Tennessee Tech football team's season opener dragging along? Need another way to get that engine raring to go for the best edition of Golden Eagle football yet? Never fear! The Tech squad has you covered with the Rock the Block Football Kickoff on Saturday, Aug. 27 on West Broad Street.

The six-hour, tailgate-inspired event, sponsored by Sports 1 and Go DJs, runs from 2-8 p.m. CT down West Broad Street and will feature countless activities, games, prizes, and giveaways, not to mention food and entertainment. The event will feature live music and a DJ, members of the 501st Stormtroopers and even an appearance by the Mayor of Cookeville, Ricky Shelton.

The Golden Eagle football team will conduct its Golden Eagle Walk from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. with Head Coach Marcus Satterfield leading the way. Appearances from the TTU cheer and dance team, Awesome Eagle and the marching band will also highlight the event.

The Tech marching band will be joined with the Pride of the Southland Alumni Band for live performances, giving an early preview to what will come Nov. 5 when the Golden Eagles make the journey to Knoxville for it's contest at University of Tennessee.

Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame members Sonny Allen, Ken Broyles, and Eddie Scott will be in attendance. The three Golden Eagles all played for Head Coach Star Wood and the TTU squad back in 1951, the last time Tech and Tennessee met on the gridiron.

Several former Vols will also make appearances at the event to take pictures and sign autographs, including Al Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Jeremaine Copeland and Andy Kelly, among others.

The Golden Eagle football team will officially kick off the 2016 schedule Thursday, Sept. 1 when it plays host to Wofford in a 6 p.m. tilt at Tucker Stadium.
