Fifteen Golden Eagle student-athletes earn OVC Academic Medal of Honor for 2016-17

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced that 222 student-athletes have earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2016-17 academic year.

This year, Tennessee Tech claimed 15 of the 222 awards, up three honors from last year's total.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieves the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2016-17 academic year carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Tech's winners included:

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Kajon Mack

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Crystal Liebenberg*

FOOTBALL – Josh Poplar

MEN'S GOLF – Cameron Yeary

WOMEN'S GOLF – Allyson Dunn

WOMEN'S SOCCER –  Rachel Blow, Mary Francis Hoots, Molly Kafader, Julia Rebollo, Dani Shartouny, Katie Shipley

SOFTBALL – Demi Coleman, Kayla Hughes, Gabby Perez

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Crystal Liebenberg*

VOLLEYBALL – Susie Jeziorowski

Of the 222 award winners, 22 were awarded Academic Medals of Honor for multiple sports (and counted just once in the final recipients list).

The 222 recipients is the second-most in a single academic year in the history of the award (trailing only the 238 honorees from a season ago). Over the past five years there have been 1,061 student-athletes earn the OVC Academic Medal of Honor.

The OVC will announce the recipients of the Commissioner's Honor Roll later this week and the Academic Achievement Award and the Team Academic Achievement Awards next week.
