Golden Eagles close out 2016-17 with match at Southeast Missouri on Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (7-21, 3-12 OVC) will close out the 2016-17 season with a contest at Southeast Missouri (6-23, 5-10 OVC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. 

Southeast Missouri leads the series 39-11 over Tech. 

When the Golden Eagles and Redhawks last faced in the 2015 season, Tech topped SEMO in three sets. 

The Golden Eagles claimed set scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 27-25 in the match. 

Former Tech standout Cody Dodd led the Purple and Gold squad with a double-double (18 kills, 19 digs) and .311 hitting percentage. 

Two other Golden Eagles found themselves with double-digit kills: Kellie Williams had 12 with a .333 hitting percentage and Alyssa Povey tallied 10 with a .217 hitting percentage. 

Sharon Anderson also notched a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs, while Kennedy Wade totaled 20 digs. 

Madalyn Werths led SEMO with 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage, while teammate Keegan Fornoff put up 33 assists. Jade Mortimer notched 27 digs for the Redhawks. 

As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .218 to the Redhawk's .173. Tech tallied 48 kills, 47 assists, 74 digs, and 10.0 blocks to SEMO's 47 kills, 41 assists, 66 digs, and 7.0 blocks. 

Freshman Rachel Thomas continues to lead Tech with 210 kills on the year. She has played in every set for the Golden Eagles and has tallied the second most blocks on the squad with 46. She hits .147 on the season. 

Alyssa Povey serves as a dual threat for the Golden Eagles. She leads Tech in blocks with 73, and has tallied the third most kills on the squad with 175 on the year. Povey hits .174 thus far this season, while also notching 58 digs and seven service aces. 

Senior Sharon Anderson leads the Golden Eagles in assists this season with 839. Her 8.33 assists per set mark her fifth amongst OVC opponent. Anderson has also totaled the second most digs on the team with 279 on the year. 

Senior Kennedy Wade leads the Golden Eagles in digs with 444 on the year (fifth best mark in the OVC). Wade holds the second most service aces on the squad with 18 on the year.

As a team, the Golden Eagles rank second in the OVC in digs with 17.46 per set. Tech also ranks 10th in service aces (0.93 per set); 11th in opponent hitting percentage (.228), assists (10.58 per set), and kills (11.22 per set), and 12th in hitting percentage (.125) and blocks (1.36 per set). 

As a team, Southeast Missouri ranks fourth in digs (16.92 per set); sixth in assists (11.56 per set) and kills (12.35 per set); seventh in service aces (1.08 per set); ninth in hitting percentage (.161); and 10th in opponent hitting percentage (.210) and kills (11.52 per set). 

Krissa Gearring leads the Redhawks with 476 kills on the year. Her 4.29 kills and 4.64 points per set rank her second in the OVC. She has also tallied the second most digs on the season for SEMO, digging up 320. Gearring has also notched 19 double-doubles, 19 service aces and 31 blocks for the Redhawks. 

Another key player on the SEMO roster is Katarina Rotta. Rotta leads the Redhawks in assists with 667 on the year. Her 8.13 assists per set mark her seventh in the OVC. Rotta has also tallied 194 digs for the Redhawks, which is the fifth highest mark on the team, while posting seven double-doubles thus far this season. 

Jade Mortimer and Nzingha Clarke are two other key players to watch for Southeast Missouri. 

Mortimer leads the Redhawks with 519 digs on the year. Her 4.68 digs per set ranks her second amongst Ohio Valley Conference opponents. She has also tallied 87 assists for SEMO, while leading the Redhawks in service aces with 23 on the year. 

Clarke serves as a dual threat for SEMO on the court. She leads the Redhawks in blocks with 81 on the year, while also tallying the second most kills on the squad with 264.
