Tennessee Tech volleyball falls to Morehead State in Saturday OVC matchup

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (5-10, 1-1 OVC) fell to Morehead State (5-10, 1-1 OVC) in Saturday's contest at the Hooper Eblen Center. The Eagles defeated the Golden Eagles in three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-15.

Senior setter Sharon Anderson notched her 3,000th career assist in the contest, totaling 22 overall. Kennedy Wade led Tech in digs tallying 15, while Shaneice James put up a .364 hitting percentage with four kills on 11 attempts and no errors.

Meredith Jewell led Morehead State with 10 kills and 16 digs in the match. Teammate Syndey Schuler tallied 10 kills while Jessie Watchman put up four blocks.

As a team, the Eagles hit .307 to the Golden Eagle's .090. Morehead State totaled 64 digs to Tech's 57 as well as put up 8 blocks to the Purple and Gold's two.

It was a close first set as a tie of 5-5 opened up play between Tech and Morehead State. The Golden Eagles took a slight three-point lead at 13-10 with a kill by James, however, the Eagles quickly battle back to tie the set at 15-15. From there, Morehead State took the lead at 19-17 with a kill by Watchman. Heading into the latter part of the set, Tech cut the Eagles' lead to two at 22-20 with a kill from freshman Rachel Thomas, however, Morehead State held on and sealed a first set victory 25-22 over the Golden Eagles.

In set two, the Eagles jumped out to the early 11-6 lead over Tech. Morehead State then went on to extend their lead to 17-10 with a kill by Maddie Fella. From there, the Eagles continued to keep the pressure on and took a second set victory 25-15 over the Golden Eagles with a kill by Watchman.

A tie of 6-6 opened up the third set between Tech and Morehead State. The Eagles, however, quickly created a five point lead at 14-9 with a kill from Jewell. Morehead State then extended their lead to 20-12 with a Schuler kill before sealing a third set and match victory 25-15 with a Jewell kill.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they travel down the road to Nashville, Tenn., to compete against conference opponent Tennessee State in a 6 p.m. contest.
