Tech volleyball falls to Murray State 3-0 in Friday night OVC matchup

MURRAY, Ky.—The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (6-14, 2-5 OVC) fell to Murray State (11-8, 6-1 OVC) in a Friday night OVC matchup 3-0. The Racers took winning set scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-7.

Murray State opened up set one with a slight two-point lead over Tech (11-9). The Racers then went on a 7-1 run to pull ahead by eight at 18-10, causing the Golden Eagles to call for a timeout. Out of the break, Murray State continued to keep the pressure on and pulled ahead 21-11 with a kill from Dacia Brown before claiming a first set victory 25-12 over Tech.

The Racers again jumped out to the early lead in the second lead, creating a five-point lead at 10-5 over the Golden Eagles. Murray State then pulled ahead by nine at 16-7, however, two Kirsten Brugere service aces followed by a Kellie Williams and Alyssa Povey block cut the Racer lead back down to three at 19-16. However, Murray State held on and edged out a second set win 25-20 over Tech.

A score of 6-1 started off the third set in favor of the Racers. Murray State extended their lead to 16-3 over Tech with a kill by Kamile Jones. The Racers continued to keep the pressure on the Golden Eagles pulling ahead by 15 at 20-5 with a kill by Hannah Stultz before taking a third set and match victory at 25-7.

Sharon Anderson led Tech with 14 assists and nine digs in the match while teammates Allison Morrett gathered 15 digs and Kellie Williams posted four kills. Jones led Murray State with 11 kills and a .360 hitting percentage, while Scottie Ingram totaled 10 kills and 10 digs in the contest.

As a team, Murray State hit .340 to Tech's .020. The Racers also totaled 106 kills, 56 digs, and 5.0 blocks to the Golden Eagle's 98 kills, 46 digs, and 2.0 blocks.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on OVC opponent Austin Peay in a 2 p.m. contest.
