CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (6-15, 2-6 OVC) fell to Austin Peay (16-7, 7-1 OVC) in three sets in a Saturday midafternoon contest. The Governors saw winning set scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-20.

In set one, Austin Peay took the early 10-5 lead over Tech. A kill by the Governor's Ashley Slay extended the APSU lead to 16-9. The Governors then went on to further extend their lead to 19-10 with a kill by Christina White before taking a first set victory 25-16 over the Golden Eagles.

A tie of 5-5 started off set two in a tangle. However, Austin Peay quickly took a slight three-point lead at 9-6 with a block by Kaylee Taff and Kristen Stucker. Later on in the set, the Governors extended their lead to 17-9 with a kill by Slay. Despite Tech's efforts to stage a comeback in the latter part of the set by pulling within four points of Austin Peay at 21-17 and three points at 23-20 with kills by freshman Rachel Thomas, the Governors were able to hold on and sneak out a second set victory 25-22.

Once again, Austin Peay started off with a lead in the third set, pulling ahead by five at 10-5 to begin. However, Tech battled back to tie the set at 17-17 with a kill by K'Vonna Johnson. The Governors responded to the Golden Eagle threat by creating a two-point buffer at 19-17 causing Tech to call for a timeout. After the break, the Golden Eagles came out fired up and retied the set at 19-19 with another kill by Johnson. However, Austin Peay held on and took a third set and match 25-20.

Thomas and Shaneice James led the Golden Eagles each with seven kills and two blocks in the contest. Sharon Anderson posted 29 assists in the match, while teammat Kirsten Brugere grabbed 14 digs. White led Austin Peay with 13 kills and a .364 hitting percentage, while Slay tallied 11 kills and Stucker put up 34 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, Oct. 21, when Tech returns home to host OVC opponent SIUE in a 7 p.m. contest in the Hooper Eblen Center.
