COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The 2014 signing class for the Tennessee Tech volleyball program recently earned High Honorable Mention for strength of the recruiting class by PrepVolleyball.com.
In the High Honorable Mention category the Golden Eagles are joined by the likes of UCLA, Stanford, Wake Forest, BYU, N.C. State, Miami (Fla.) and Georgia Tech.
“This is a big step in the growth of the program,” said head coach Dave Zelenock. “The ranking is based on a projection of the impact the class makes on the program. The panel, which is comprised of top coaches in the country, sees our recruits as program changers and so do we. We expect all five of the incoming players to compete for time right away and help us continue to grow.”
During the early signing period, the Golden Eagles signed Sam Cash, Allison Morrett, Kellie Williams, and K’Vonna Johnson. Cash, a 6-foot setter, and Morrett, a 5-foot-7 defensive specialist, hail from Casstown, Ohio, where they were high school teammates. The duo racked up a 110-10 record at Miami East High, including back-to-back state titles in 2011 and 2012.
Cash also was named a PrepVolleyball.com Top-250 Senior. Williams, a 6-foot outside hitter who calls Charlotte, N.C. home, joined Cash as a Top-250 Senior. She tallied 1,185 kills and 1,058 digs in her career.
Johnson, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker, joined the fall signees. A pure athlete, the Missouri City, Texas native played both setter and middle blocker in high school.
In the late signing period this spring, the Golden Eagles added 6-foot-3 middle blocker Jordan Wachowiak. The Muskego, Wis. product comes to Cookeville after a very successful prep career. She wrapped up four years of play at Muskego High with a hitting percentage of .318 while tallying 425 kills. With her high school teammates, she qualified for state every year, including a state runner-up finish at the Division 1 level. With her club volleyball team, Milwaukee Sting, she registered multiple top five finishes at the AAU National Tournament, including a national runner-up in June of 2012.
This group of recruits will join seven returning student-athletes, along with a mid-school year transfer, who will be looking to improve upon the 2013 season. The 2014 schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks.
