Smith hits career mark, Golden Eagles drop OVC match-up at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Junior Courtney Smith hit a career milestone on Saturday afternoon despite the Tennessee Tech volleyball team dropping its match to Ohio Valley Conference powerhouse Morehead State in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19.

The libero recorded her 1000th career dig as she tallied 13 digs during the match to put her career total to 1,001. She joins fellow junior Allison May in the 1,000-Dig Club. May has a 1,092 digs in her career.

Senior Elise Robertson and sophomore Cody Dodd each put down six kills, while senior Ashleigh Hancock dished out 19 assists.

The Morehead State Eagles increased their impressive conference win streak to 30-straight matches as they hit .277 for the match and were able to force the Golden Eagle in many error-prone situations. Laura McDermott led the Eagles with 9 kills and hit a blistering .438. Colbey Cameron put up 24 assists and Leslie Schellhaas dug up a match-high 14 digs.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Tuesday as they head to Tennessee State for a 6 p.m. CDT midweek match-up.
