COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech (2-11) absorbed its second OVC loss of the season as it fell to the Morehead State Eagles 3-0 by the scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16.
"Morehead State is a good team," head coach John
Blair said. "We put ourselves in a position to win and we
feel pretty good about that."
The first set saw a seesaw battle as both teams found
themselves tied at 21 late in the first set. Morehead State
outscored the Golden Eagles 4-1 behind two kills and two Tech
errors to take the first set 25-22.
Tech controlled the flow of the second set early on as it was
able to build a 10-7 lead. Morehead State would not go quietly as
it outscored TTU 12-8 to take the lead for good at 19-18. The
Eagles would go on to win the set 25-23. Morehead State was able to
take the third set 25-16 to finish the match.
Sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Gray led the Golden Eagles in
kills with 12, while senior outside hitter Leah Meffert posted
another double double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior setter
Melanie Culp added 31 assists as well.
The Golden Eagles return home Friday, as they host Austin
Peay, at 7 p.m.
"I think coming home will help us a lot," Blair
said. "It's always nice to come home and it has been a
while since we've been home. I know they're looking
forward to it."
