Tech falls to Missouri, Central Arkansas at WKU Invitational

COOKEVILLE - The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle volleyball team (2-8) absorbed a pair losses Friday during the first day of the Western Kentucky Invitational. Tech lost to the Missouri Tigers and the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears.

Tech took a 3-0 loss to Missouri to begin the day by the scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-19. Senior middle Blocker Marie Peddicord paced the Golden Eagle offense as she recorded nine kills, while freshman defensive specialist Allison May led the team in digs with 20. Senior setter Melanie Culp tallied 17 assists as well.

""We did not play well this morning," head coach John Blair said. "We just dug ourselves into too deep a hole, but we should have been right in it with them."

Tennessee Tech finished the day with a 3-0 loss to Central Arkansas by the scores of 25-17, 25-8 and 25-22. Senior outside hitter Leah Meffert led on the offensive side of the net as she posted 12 kills, while Culp chipped in with 24 assists.

"The offense just wasn't clicking in the second set," assistant coach Jessica Lane said. "The third set we got more comfortable and made a run at it but errors cost us in the end. This left the team with a sour taste and I know they're looking forward to playing Western Kentucky tomorrow."

Tennessee Tech wraps up the WKU Invitational Saturday as it takes on the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers at 1 p.m.
