"There were just strings of good points and bad points by both teams," head coach John Blair said. "Neither team was consistent enough to take over."

 

The first set saw the Colonels control most of the contest early on as they built a 22-18 lead. The Golden Eagles would not go quietly as they strung together four straight points behind two kills and two EKU errors to knot up the score at 22. Eastern Kentucky managed to recover and take the final three points for a 25-22 win.

 

The second set proved more competitive than the first as there were seven leads changes as both teams found themselves tied late in the set at 24. EKU was able to get the final two points to secure a 26-24 win. This was the third time this season the Golden Eagles have gone into extra points.

 

"Even going down 0-2, I still thought that if we played our game we could still win," Blair said.

 

Tech and Eastern Kentucky remained close through much of the third set as they found themselves tied up late in the set once again at 20 all. Tennessee Tech took control and managed to outscore the Colonels 5-1, behind two kills from senior middle blocker Marie Peddicord, to take the third set 25-21.

 

In the final set both team were tied at 10 early on, but the Golden Eagles were not able to force a fifth set as EKU managed to outscore the them 15-11 to take the final set 25-21 and the match.

 

Senior outside hitter Leah Meffert posted another double double on the season as she tallied a team-high 14 kills and 13 digs. Peddicord chipped in with 13 kills, while freshman defensive specialist Allison May posted a season-high 23 digs.  

 

The Golden Eagles also compiled 20 total blocks, six of which came from both Peddicord and sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Gray. Senior setter Melanie Culp led the team with 39 assists as well.

 

"Melanie was very consistent and gave us opportunities," Blair said. "We have to be sharper and take advantage of them."

 

Tennessee Tech continues OVC play Saturday, as it takes on Morehead State, at 1 p.m.
