Golden Eagles soar over Redhawks

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (5-13, 3-4 OVC) won their third conference match of the season as they downed the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 3-1. Tech won by the scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-17.

"Our team played a solid match," head coach John Blair said. "The team played well and it was a solid win on the road."
 
Tech meant business early in the first set as it quickly built a 10 point lead at 16-6, and went on to take the first set 25-13. Freshman Elise Robertson paced the Golden Eagle offense with three kills.
 
The second set saw a closer contest as both teams were knotted up at 14. The Redhawks were then able to go on an 11-7 run to take the second 25-21. Senior outside hitter Leah Meffert led the Golden Eagle offense with five kills.
 
The third set followed the second set closely as both teams found themselves tied at 13. Tech then went on a 6-0 run to take a 19-13 lead. The Golden Eagles were then able to take the third set 25-20.
 
The Golden Eagles quickly built a 15-11 lead to open the fourth set. Tech then finished off the set on a 10-6 run to take the final set 25-17, and the match.
 
Meffert paced the Golden Eagle offense with 15 kills, while freshman Natalie Penrod and senior Marie Peddicord recorded 10. Senior Melanie Culp added 40 assists, while freshman Allison May added 18 digs.
 
Tech wraps up its four-game road trip Saturday against Eastern Illinois, at 2 p.m.
