Julian breaks scoring record, Golden Eagles climb on final day of Diamante Intercollegiate

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team rose two places in the finals standings at the Diamante Intercollegiate presented by Simmons Bank Tuesday afternoon, closing out the action at Diamante Country Club. 

The Golden Eagles ended the week 12th among the 18-team field, saving its best round for last with a 292 for an 889 total. FGCU held on to claim the tournament crown, finishing 16-under with an 848 to top Boston College by three strokes. FGCU's Lousiane Gauthier earned individual medalist honors with a 15-under 201 for the event.

For the purple and gold, it was sophomore Lexus Julian leading the way, tying for 15th among the 98 competitors with a 1-under 215 for the week. The Cookeville native fired a career-low, 3-under 69 to round out the event, piling up five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 11th hole. Julian's effort of 215 for the tournament broke the program's 54-hole scoring record, topping Gittle Sciolis' 217 at last fall's Terrier Intercollegiate. 

Fellow sophomore Chloe Griffith was next among the Golden Eagles on the leaderboard, tying for 34th overall with a score of 221. She finished off the event with a 1-over 73, tallying a birdie and 15 pars along the way. 

Tying for 54th with a final total of 224, junior Kaydi Rhodes tacked on a 75 to the Tech scoring effort with a birdie and 14 pars. Closing out the scoring four for the day with a 75 of her own, freshman Kailey Lane racked up six birdies to total 233 overall.

Completing the Tech lineup, junior Sydney Branson tallied four birdies for a 76 on the day and a 231 for the event. 

The third and final round of the Diamante Intercollegiate will kick off for the Golden Eagles with tee times off the 1st hole starting at 9:10 a.m. CT.
