COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A collection of new challenges awaits the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, as the Golden Eagles embark on their 2024-25 campaign with an eye on building on last season's third-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
Leading things off for the purple and gold is a familiar trip to Pawley's Island, S.C. and the Golfweek Fall Challenge. Hosted by Golfweek from Sept. 8-10, the annual event will once again take place at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
A pair of two-day tournaments are on the docket next for the Golden Eagles, starting with a visit to Hoover, Ala. Tech will test out Hoover Country Club at UAB's Hoover Invite from Sept. 16-17 before taking a brief week off competition.
The Cookeville crew returns to action Sept. 30 through Oct. 1, flocking north to Port Clinton, Ohio and Catawba Island Golf Club. Tech will get its first experience at the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo.
Three days of action are on tap later in the month for the Golden Eagles, with Little Rock's Diamante Intercollegiate presented by Simmons Bank set to run from Oct. 20-22. All three rounds will take place at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark.
To wrap up the fall slate, the Tech squad moves back south for the Mercer Invitational, running from Oct. 28-29. Another new course for the Golden Eagles to test out, Tech will compete at River Forest Golf Club in Forsyth, Ga.
Just like last season, the Golden Eagles welcome in the spring in Huntsville, Ala. at Samford's Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. Playing Mar. 3-4, Tech will begin its first of three visits to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, starting with action at the Highlands Course at Hampton Cove.
Less than a full week later, the Cookeville crew will turn right back around and visit Gadsden, Ala. from Mar. 9-11. Tech's second appearance on the RTJ Trail features play at Silver Lakes for Jacksonville State's Chris Banister Golf Classic. TTU's last appearance at the event came in the fall of 2021.
Things shift east for the purple and gold at the turn of the month, with a first-time trip to Morganton, N.C. from Mar. 31 through Apr. 1. Tech will take on Mimosa Hills Country Club for App State's Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
Finishing off the regular season is a unique opportunity for the Golden Eagles, a short one-day excursion to Knoxville. Tech will take on a field of programs hailing only from the Volunteer State with two rounds of action at Fox Den Country Club for the Tennessee Challenge, hosted by the Vols.
"This year's schedule includes a lot of new courses and locations," Tech head coach Amanda Smith expressed. "We love having the opportunity to return to Pawley's Island and Hoover this season. Adding Toledo's event this year was fun for me because I actually got to play in that tournament when I was in college and they do a phenomenal job of making it fun and exciting for the players. It will be exciting to see how the ladies can take charge while competing on new courses at Little Rock's, Mercer's, App State's, and Tennessee's events. It is also nice to have more familiarity in the spring with our trips to Hampton Cove and Silver Lakes. Overall, we are excited to play at these fabulous courses and continue to improve over the year."
The 31st annual OVC Women's Golf Championship will be held Apr. 13-15 in Muscle Shoals, Ala., featuring Tech's third visit on the RTJ Trail of the spring. Competing on the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals for the third straight year, the purple and gold will look to build off back-to-back third-place displays at the course.
