Round one in the books for Tech at Diamante Intercollegiate

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team finished off the opening round of action at the Diamante Intercollegiate presented by Simmons Bank Sunday afternoon at Diamante Country Club. 

The purple and gold capped off the first day of play tied for 10th amongst the 18-team field, matching Missouri State with a score of 299. Host Little Rock claimed the top spot on the leaderboard, finishing with a 5-under 283. FGCU's Lousiane Gauthier led all individuals with a 5-under 67 on the day.

Pacing the Golden Eagles in the first round was Cookeville native Lexus Julian, carding an even-par 72 with a birdie and an eagle on the par-5 11th hole. She tied for 12th among the 98 golfers in the field.

Just one shot back of her teammate, junior Kaydi Rhodes tied for 24th on the day behind a 1-over 73, sporting one birdie and a whopping 16 pars. Finishing third among the Golden Eagles, sophomore Chloe Griffith picked up a birdie on her way to a 3-over 75 and tie for 43rd.

Completing the scoring four for Tech on the day, junior Sydney Branson turned in a 79 backed by three birdies. Rounding out the competitors for the purple and gold, freshman Kailey Lane ended day one with an 83 and one birdie.

Round two of the Diamante Intercollegiate will kick off for the Golden Eagles with tee times off the 10th hole starting at 10:06 a.m. CT.
