Golden Eagles finish strong at season-opening Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – For the second time in as many days, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team showed improvement at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, wrapping up the first tournament of the 2024-25 season at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C. 

Tech finished 13th among the 18-team field, breaking a two-day tie with Queens by a single shot on the final day of action. The purple and gold turned in a 298 to finish with a 905 overall. Campbell won the tournament behind a three-day total of 2-under 850. New Mexico State's Emma Bunch claimed individual medalist honors after delivering a 7-under 206 for the week.

At the top of the leaderboard of 93 golfers for the Golden Eagles, sophomore Chloe Griffith tied for 24th overall after producing a career-best 217 for the event. The youngster backed up a 1-under 70 on Monday with an even-par 71 on Tuesday, complete with three birdies.

Junior Kaydi Rhodes ranked 36th with a 221 following consistent play throughout the event. Following back-to-back rounds of 73, the veteran turned in a 75 with a pair of birdies to finish the week. Rookie Kailey Lane knocked three strokes off her Monday total to tie for 70th overall with a 232. The freshman tallied a 75 to complete her first career tournament.

Carding her second 80 in as many days, senior Reagan Stuke rounded out the first event of the year with a 238 for three rounds of work. Sophomore Lexus Julian returned to form with an improvement of six shots for the final round, completing a 77 with two birdies as part of a 243 overall for the tournament. 

The Golden Eagles return to the links next Monday and Tuesday with a trip to Hoover, Ala. Tech will take part in UAB's Hoover Invite at Hoover Country Club.
