Tech women's golf team in fifth after day one of Chris Banister Fall Classic

GLENCOE, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the Chris Banister Fall Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Club Sunday afternoon, sitting in fifth place among seven teams.

The Golden Eagles posted a 324 after the first round of play at Jacksonville State's event, 11 strokes better than sixth-place Alabama State. Leading the way for the Tech squad was senior Lindsay Miller, who carded a 79 to tie for 13th among the 39 participants.

A pair of Tech veterans ranked next for the Golden Eagles, including juniors Arianna Clemmer and Shelby Johnson. Clemmer finished the day in 16th after posting an 80 while Johnson was right behind with an 81.

True freshman Heidi Lawson completed her first collegiate round in a tie for 24th, rounding out action with an 84. Sophomore Isabel York turned in an 86 to rank 29th. Competing as an individual, sophomore Hannah Bratton completed the first round with a 94.

It was Jacksonville State that stood on top after day one, firing a 301. Gamecock Paula Vega led all golfers with a 69.

The Golden Eagles will kick off round-two action on Monday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
