COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s golf
team will play in five tournaments in three different states,
beginning in Alabama, Sept. 2. Coach Polk Brown announced the
team's fall schedule this week.
Tech is slated to reappear in four familiar tournaments, and will also be joining a new field at the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raider Invitational.
The fall season begins September 2-4 at the annual Chris
Banister Golf Classic hosted by Jacksonville State. The team will
compete in 54 holes at the Silver Lake Golf Course in Gadsden, Ala.
Last fall Tech had a pair of Top 20 finishers with Katherine Bell
and Amanda Randolph placing 12th and 17th
respectively in the 49-player field.
“The fall schedule for the women's team finds us returning
to some familiar events, but also a new event that we have not
played before which is hosted by former OVC rival Middle
Tennessee," Brown said. "The women will need to be prepared; we
will waste no time given that their first event, the Chris
Bannister Fall Classic, is Labor Day Weekend.
"I am excited that we will be mixing it up with some great teams
that include the defending OVC champs Jacksonville State and Murray
State, as well," he said. "It will be a good way to start out the
season.”
The team travels again in mid-September to the Great Smokies Invitational in Waynesville, N.C. The 36-hole competition is hosted by Western Carolina at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa. The teams will play on three award-winning 9-hole courses nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains.
After a brief hiatus, the Golden Eagles return to the links with a heavy tournament schedule, traveling three weekends in a row at the end of October. The Golden Eagles kick off their road stretch in Clarksville, Tenn. at the APSU F&M Bank Intercollegiate Tournament at Clarksville Country Club. OVC rival Austin Peay hosts the 36-hole contest.
The Golden Eagles have benefited from past success in the APSU tournament with two top-five finishes. The team will be trying to repeat their 2008 achievement when they won the tournament on the flat, links-style course.
Tech will then travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to play at the Old Fort Golf Course. The grinding 54-hole event will host the Golden Eagles for the first time.
“If I had to choose an event on the schedule that I'm most looking forward to, it would have to be the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by MTSU," Brown said. "Along with the players, I am looking forward to rekindling Tech's rivalry with MTSU.”
Tech will close out the fall season at the University of Alabama’s Fall Beach Blast. The team will travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in 36 beautiful holes, against some of the top competition in the region.
Tech has five golfers returning to the greens, and adds a pair of incoming freshmen. Newcomers Allison Geer and Megan Williamson will join underclassmen Madalyn Everts, Amber Shepherd, and Brandy Van Etten. The roster features two seniors, Katherine Bell and Amanda Randolph.
