Tech women seventh after first day at Drake Creek Invitational

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Tennessee Tech women's golf team shaved eight shots off its score between the first and second rounds Monday, and heads into Tuesday's final round in seventh place at the 54-hole Drake Creek Invitational.

Senior Carley Rhyne leads Tech through 36 holes, carding rounds of 82 and 76 for a 158 total, placing her in a tie for 22nd. Six spots back in a tie for 28th is sophomore Katherine Bell, who also saw a big improvement in scores with rounds of 82 and 77 for a 159.

Freshman Brandy VanEtten (79-84--163) is tied for 35th place, followed by Amanda Randolph (82-83--165), and freshman Amber Shepherd (84-81--165), both tied for 39th place.

Playing as individuals are three Golden Eagles. Freshman Ericka Wann tops that group (86-78--164) in a tie for 37th place, followed by freshman Katy Beth Glover (81-90--171) tied for 50th, and Lindsay Spradlen (89-86--175) tied for 53rd.

Morehead State owns the lead in the team standings at 594, including an opening round of 293. Western Kentucky (610) is 17 shots back in second place, followed by Eastern Kentucky (624), Murray State (626), Belmont (629), Austin Peay (633), Tech (642) and Lipscomb (654).
